Kindergarten

The Kindergarten Program at the John Thomas Dye School is an intentionally designed, developmentally appropriate program of interactive and engaging learning opportunities for our youngest greyhounds.
Kindergarteners grow academically and socially through hands-on, authentic experiences in an environment that fosters independence, creativity, collaboration, and friendships. The 5C’s: Caring, Common Sense, Consideration, Cooperation, and Courtesy, are at the heart of our Social Emotional program. Kindergarten students learn each of the 5C’s as they begin to develop core social emotional skills for learning, emotion management, empathy, and problem solving that help them navigate their way through school as well as their community.
Campus and Curriculum
The Kindergarten Campus is designed to provide developmentally appropriate opportunities to learn through play and exploration both inside and outside of the classroom.
Upon entering one of our three Kindergarten classrooms of 14-16 students, you will likely observe students learning through interactive and hands-on activities, teachers working with small groups, and children engaged and curious about their learning. Students “cross the street” to the main campus for specialist lessons including Music, PE, Art, and Technology twice during each 8-day cycle.
The Kindergarten experience at John Thomas Dye includes many signature experiences from musical performances, to a reading buddy program with Grade 3, to the annual parent pajama breakfast. This is a special year that is remembered by both students and families for many years to follow.
