Financial Assistance

At The John Thomas Dye School, we believe in making a JTD education accessible to all students, regardless of their family’s ability to pay full tuition.
More information about the School’s Financial Assistance program can be found in the guide Affording JTD: A Guide to Financial Assistance for Current and Prospective Families.

Financial assistance is available at all grade levels and based solely on need. The John Thomas Dye School is committed to its Financial Assistance program and provided approximately $1.5 million for tuition assistance and other school-related expenses in the 2025-2026 school year.

JTD uses the Clarity Application to determine a family’s level of financial need based on the information that families share in the application which includes assets, income, expenses, and debts.

Important Dates:
Clarity Application Opens: October 1, 2025
Current Family Applications Due: November 30, 2025

Financial Assistance FAQs

List of 6 items.

  • What is JTD’s tuition?

Tuition for the 2025-26 school year is $43,900 for Kindergarten through Grade 6. There is also a one-time new student fee of $2,500. Families who plan to apply for Financial Assistance should check the appropriate box on their admissions application and the admissions application fee will be waived.
  • What is the Financial Assistance process at JTD?

The school utilizes a third party platform called Clarity to help determine awards for Financial Assistance applicants. Families interested in applying for assistance will complete a Clarity application each year that financial assistance is requested.

Once Clarity receives the required information from a family, it verifies the applicant's information and determines the suggested Financial Assistance award based on the submitted data and documentation. The School’s Financial Assistance Committee reviews the application, the Clarity recommendation, and then determines the Financial Assistance award. All information is kept confidential. In the case of divorced or separated parents, both parents must submit an application via Clarity. Please adhere to all deadlines.
  • Does applying for Financial Assistance affect admissions decisions?

No. Students who meet the admissions requirements are considered for admission to JTD regardless of financial need. Because of the School’s strong financial position and deep commitment to socio-economic diversity, we make admissions decisions first and then allocate Financial Assistance as determined by the demonstrated need of a family.
  • Will our Financial Assistance award change each year?

As tuition increases, so does a family’s Financial Assistance award. Typically, these increases are in direct proportion to any annual tuition increase, provided the family’s demonstrated need remains consistent. Families will reapply for Financial Assistance each year.
  • Are there accommodations for significant changes in a family’s financial status?

Absolutely. JTD recognizes that some families may experience an unexpected financial hardship due to sudden loss of job, a family illness, or other circumstances. Families are encouraged to contact Steven Prothro, Director of Finance, as soon as it becomes apparent that a modified payment plan or Financial Assistance is needed.
  • How can I learn more about Financial Assistance?

JTD hosts a webinar each year for families to learn more about the School’s Financial Assistance program that includes case studies of award recipients and practical tips for completing the application. In addition, JTD’s Director of Finance, Steven Prothro, is available to answer questions.
