Greyhounds Partner with Wags & Walks

By Kate Merritt
On a sunny February morning, many JTD students could be found caring for (and cuddling with!) rescue dogs.
These students were part of a service day at Wags & Walks, a local nonprofit working to reduce euthanasia in local shelters and increase awareness of rescue dogs.

Alexandra and Ryan, two JTD sixth grade students who volunteer regularly with Wags & Walks, helped organize this day of service. In January, Alexandra and Ryan spoke at Morning Assembly about the importance of adopting dogs from shelters and shared an opportunity for JTD students and their families to come to the Wags & Walks Headquarters to volunteer. They also launched a fundraiser for the organization, to help raise funds to care for the rescue dogs.

JTD students and their families jumped at the opportunity to get involved! Students who attended the event learned more about the organization, made dog treats, and, of course, had a chance to play with the adorable pups! One family even adopted a dog at the event! JTD students also came together to raise over $2000 to support the rescue efforts of Wags & Walks.

JTD's mascot, Yaz the Greyhound, would be so proud!
