Grade 6 Makes a Splash!

By Kate Merritt
It was a little quieter at JTD this week as our oldest students were noticeably absent from campus. After a two-year hiatus, JTD was finally able to reinstitute a beloved Grade 6 tradition--the Catalina Trip! The Class of 2023, along with their advisors and teachers, traveled to the Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI) for three days and two nights of marine science education on Catalina Island.
Before carpool even began on Wednesday morning, our sixth grade students loaded their luggage onto the bus to head to Long Beach to catch the ferry to Catalina. Upon arrival (and a short orientation), they moved into their dorms before hitting the water.

Over the course of the next three days, students enjoyed kayaking, snorkeling, and learning about the local marine life, before returning to campus on Friday afternoon.

Our students had an incredible time, although after three days on the water with their friends, they are pretty exhausted!
