Looking to the Future
This is an incredibly exciting time to be a member of the JTD community. Now that our children are back on campus and we have resumed some of our normal community activities, we have started to see a return to what makes JTD such a special place for children, employees, and families.
The disruption of COVID has also allowed us to examine what is core to our identity and what opportunities there are to continue to evolve. Currently, we are undergoing a strategic planning process, considering the future of JTD through the lens of building upon our strengths and striving for continual improvement.
As we have shared in prior communications, the strategic planning process is designed to be comprehensive in its scope and inclusive of the perspectives of the JTD community. In the spring of 2021, we conducted a thorough data collection process, which included focus groups, as well as 700 survey responses from current parents/guardians, faculty/staff, and alumni. In early June, we convened the Strategic Planning Committee, which is comprised of representatives from the following groups: the administrative team, the faculty, the current parent body, and members of the Board of Trustees. Our partners, the Gowan Group, presented themes and trends gathered from that data collection process, and as we met throughout the summer, we began the process of identifying areas of focus for the plan.
Throughout the discernment process, we have decided to center our strategy around three main constituencies: our students, our educators, and our community. As we develop priorities in each of these areas, we are seeking to identify what makes JTD great and to develop strategy to build upon those strengths. For example, if we know that the quality of a teacher has a significant impact on student achievement, then one of our priorities will surely be to attract and retain exceptional educators. Likewise, because we embrace that diversity enriches the experience for everyone in our school community and that The 5C’s are core to the goal of fostering a sense of belonging for students and families alike, we can expect that these will be through lines in our plan.
As the next steps in the process, the Strategic Planning Committee will finalize the high-level plan to present to the Board of Trustees for feedback and ultimately approval, with a goal of sharing the full plan with the community in early 2022. The Strategic Plan will then become a steering document for the Board of Trustees, and the school administration and staff will set annual goals to implement and measure outcomes from the plan. We look forward to providing further updates throughout the process.
