Grade 4 students share innovative ideas at JTD Shark Tank

By Kate Merritt
This week, Grade 4 students invited parents, teachers, and administrators to join them virtually for the School's very own version of "Shark Tank."

JTD students have been busy working in small groups to develop a concept for a new invention or service. They then wrote essays to describe their product, built conceptual websites to sell their ideas, developed logos and branding, and put together a presentation to sell their pitch to potential investors.
In a culminating event, each fourth grade cohort invited two "Sharks" (other JTD faculty members) to come into the classroom to listen to the students' presentation along with fourth grade parents. Students shared their innovative ideas, describing everything from cleaning robots to a better version of the face mask. The Sharks then asked students tough follow up questions, "Are you worried your price point is too high?" "Will your product come with a warranty?" "Will your product appeal to all ages?" The students had performed well under pressure, fielding these inquiries with ease!

While we're not sure if you're going to see any of these products in stores anytime soon, these fourth graders had a great time putting their essay writing, technology, and public speaking skills to great use! Up next for these students--an appointment with Mark Cuban!
