Students Support COVID-19 Relief

By Kate Merritt
In this time where many of us were feeling so helpless, JTD alumna, Ava Croxall '16, was moved to do something more--to be a helper. Driven to support families who had been hit hardest by the pandemic, she started COVID Relief Care, a non-profit created to provide food, PPE, and baby supplies to families impacted by the pandemic.
Through social workers, families in need submit a profile with local non-profit (and longtime JTD partner) One Voice. Ava's organization then works to meet those needs. For Thanksgiving, Covid Relief Care provided meals to 45 families for two weeks. In December, COVID Relief Care provided food and toys to 55 families, and they have continued to support families with food and supplies into the new year.

This Spring, Ava partnered with the JTD Student Service Learning Club to collect diapers, baby formula, cereal, and laundry detergent for donation to families in need in our LA Community. Our Student Council also wanted to get involved with giving back to our community, and is partnering with a local hospital to donate masks and other PPE. Together, the JTD Student Service Learning Club and Student Council collected nearly 80 packs of diapers, over 50 bottles of detergent, 40 boxes of cereal, 40 containers of baby formula, and bags and bags full of face masks, face shields and other PPE! The donated items will be delivered to families in mid-April via COVID Relief Care and the organization Donate PPE.
